The History of Old Settler’s Reunion

The original Old Settlers Reunion came about in July of 1930, when Mr. and Mrs. Turner Vance returned to Stanton for a visit with family and friends. Horace Hamilton, Jim Sale, Joe Hall, and John Epley were among the friends responsible for the “get-together”. The gathering was such a success that a tradition had been established. In July of 1931 the Old Settlers Reunion was moved from the Hamilton lawn to the courthouse and opened up to the public.

This tradition has continued to be held every year since then and is always held the second weekend in July. The original family and friend “get-together” set the stage to reunite many generations to come. It is a tradition that is kept near and dear to anyone that was raised in Martin County, and a new tradition to welcome any new people moving to the community.
